Installing GenuTax Standard on Windows 7

Before you can install and run GenuTax Standard, you must have Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) installed on your computer. To determine if SP1 has been installed, click this link to go to the applicable page on Microsoft's web site for further instructions.

To download GenuTax Standard, click the following link, and indicate that you wish to save the file to your hard drive.

To install GenuTax Standard, run the GenuTaxSetupV150.exe file that is downloaded, by double-clicking the file.

If this is the first time you have installed GenuTax Standard, you may also have to install version 4.5 of the Microsoft .NET Framework. In this case, the installer for GenuTax Standard should indicate this requirement to you, and ask if you wish to have it downloaded and installed on your behalf. Detailed Instructions for Installing GenuTax Standard

Here is a detailed set of step-by-step instructions for downloading and installing GenuTax Standard software. The instructions are particularly directed toward those that are not familiar with the process of downloading and installing software from an Internet web site.

Installing GenuTax Standard Software

To download and install GenuTax Standard, follow these step-by-step instructions.

  1. Right-click on the following link:

  2. Select the "Save Target As" item from the menu that pops up.

  3. In the "Save As" dialog box that appears, click the "Desktop" item under "Favorites" on the left side of the dialog box.

  4. Click the "Save" button in the lower right-corner of the dialog box.

  5. If a message appears which says that "GenuTaxSetupV150.exe already exists. Do you want to replace it?", click the "Yes" button.

  6. The installer file GenuTaxSetupV150.exe will now be downloaded.

  7. Once your download is complete, close all your currently running programs.

  8. On your desktop, you will notice an icon called "GenuTaxSetupV150". To install GenuTax Standard, double-click that icon.

  9. A "User Account Control" dialog box may appear, asking if you want to allow the program to install software on, or make changes to, this computer. If so, click the "Yes" button to continue. Depending on the permissions granted to your Windows user account, you may be required to enter an administrator password before clicking "Yes".

  10. If this is the first time you have installed GenuTax Standard, you may also have to install version 4.5 of the Microsoft .NET Framework. In this case, the installer for GenuTax Standard should indicate this requirement to you, and ask if you wish to have it downloaded and installed on your behalf. If the automated download and installation of version 4.5 of the Microsoft .NET Framework is unsuccessful, to manually download and install it yourself, please click here to go to the appropriate page on Microsoft's web site, and follow the instructions provided on that page.

  11. If you had to install version 4.5 of the Microsoft .NET Framework, the installer will ask you to restart your computer. After restarting, the installer for GenuTax Standard should resume. However, if it does not resume, restart the installer by double-clicking the "GenuTaxSetupV150" icon.

  12. Once you have successfully installed GenuTax Standard, you will notice a new icon on your desktop called "GenuTax Standard". Double-click this icon to run GenuTax Standard.

  13. If an "Open File - Security Warning" dialog box appears, indicating that the publisher could not be verified, click the "Run" button.

  14. An "Admin Required" dialog box may appear with the message, "In order to use GenuTax Standard an Administrator must grant permission to run the software at least once. To grant permissions to the application, select the 'Authorize' button and ask an Administrator to enter their login information." Click the "Authorize" button, entering an administrator password if necessary.

  15. Another "User Account Control" dialog box may appear, asking if you want to allow the following program, a license authorization tool, to make changes to this computer. If so, click the "Yes" button to continue. Depending on the permissions granted to your Windows user account, you may be required to enter an administrator password before clicking "Yes".
